Valdosta, Ga.- Despite a 25-point performance from Gabrielle Wener in her Sailfish debut, PBA fell to twenty-fifth ranked Valdosta State on Thursday night by a score of 75-58.
The first game of the SSC-GSC crossover in Valdosta, the Sailfish got off to a hot start with an 8-2 run to start the game. Valdosta State quickly recovered with a run of their own and took the lead 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was another back and forth affair with PBA cutting the Valdosta lead to only 3 points with their last possession of the half. The Lady Blazers would extend the lead to five points at the halftime break.
Despite PBA continuing to chip away at the defecit, Valdosta State stretched their lead to twelve at the end of the third quarter.
The difference in the game could be found on the glass. Valdosta State collected fifteen offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points to PBA's two second chance points.
Gabrielle Wener led the way for the Sailfish in minutes and points with 25 points on 8-19 shooting in 38 minutes. Kash Ayuso was second on the team with 11 points on 4-10 shooting.
The Sailfish are back in action right away. They'll take on West Florida tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. to conclude the SSC-GSC crossover.
