Men’s Basketball Sweeps Opening Weekend with Win over Morehouse

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Fueled by a 19 point performance from Josh Ward, the Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team got its second win in as many nights with a 77-67 victory over Morehouse College to close out the South Region Crossover.

An intense start from both sides kept the score tight for much of the first half. The Sailfish went on a late run, capped by a Will Lee three-pointer, saw their lead grow to ten with under two minutes remaining. However, after Morehouse regrouped with a timeout, the Maroon Tigers closed the half with a 6-0 run of their own and cut the deficit to only four at the halftime break.

The Sailfish extended their lead early in the second half out to a 15-point margin. Although, Morehouse refused to go away quietly. The Maroon Tigers continued to chip away and after a 10-2 run with a little under four minutes to play, they found themselves down by only three.

That would be as close as Morehouse would get.

Thanks to a run of baskets from Josh Ward and Alvin Tumblin Jr., PBA put the game on ice and finished off Morehouse with a 77-67 victory.

The Sailfish dominated the glass on both ends of the floor. Winning the rebound battle 40-28, PBA took advantage with 15 second chance points.

With the win, the Sailfish swept opening weekend and the South Regional Crossover. This marks the first time since 2004-05 that PBA has started off the season 2-0.

The Sailfish return to action next Saturday when they host Florida National inside Rubin Arena at 4 p.m.
