WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team hosted No. 20-ranked Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night.
The Sailfish (6-3-3, 5-2-1 SSC) looked to snap their winless streak against NSU (6-3-2, 5-2-1 SSC). PBA has not defeated the Sharks since Oct. 2021 and has tied NSU in the last two matchups. The Sailfish found themselves tied again with 5:36 left to play. The 'Fish earned a corner kick, taken by Narcis Bou Dalmou. The cross found the head of
Calum Ferguson, who hung in the air long enough to deflect the ball into the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The header lifted PBA to a 3-2 victory.
PBA struck first early in the first half. The opening goal was also off an earned corner kick.
Harry Gardner swung the ball into Jack Strachan whose header gave the Sailfish a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes of play. The Sharks evened the score with five minutes remaining in the half. The Shark's corner kick took two deflections before beating the keeper and tying the match before halftime.
The 'Fish regained the lead 15 minutes into the second half. Augustin Iusem made a run before getting bulled over by the NSU goalie, resulting in a penalty. Bou Dalmou took the penalty kick, converting on a chip shot to make it 2-1 Sailfish.
With 10 minutes remaining, the Sharks earned the equalizer. Off a long throw-in, the ball deflected back to Santiago Marengo who shielded off the PBA defender while sending a shot into the bottom right corner that snuck past
Omar Einarsson in goal to tie the match at two. The aggressiveness in the game continued as two more yellow cards were handed out prior to Ferguson's game-winning goal.
PBA narrowly outshot the Sharks 8-7, with both teams recording four shots on goal. The 'Fish earned five corner kicks, scoring off two of them. Tonight's win puts PBA in a tie with NSU for second place in the SSC standings with each having 16 points.
The Sailfish are back in action on Saturday, traveling to face Rollins. The match in Winter Park, Fla. takes place at 7 p.m.
