Rollins Stuns Men's Soccer On the Road

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team looked to pick up three points in the Sunshine State Conference standings on Saturday at Rollins.

PBA entered the match tied for second in the SSC table. The Sailfish attempted to put themselves in a prime position to host an SSC tournament match. The Tars caught the 'Fish off guard, scoring three two goals before the Sailfish got on the board late in the second half. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, their comeback fell short as Rollins won 4-2.

Marian Rutkowski and Jake Strachan each found the back of the net for the Sailfish. The Tars finished the match with 11 shots on goal compared to seven for PBA.

Rollins scored its first goal 15 minutes into the match. A ball crossed into the box ended up being on goal. The ball floated above the PBA keeper and found the top right corner of the goal to put the Tars ahead 1-0. Narics Bou Dalmou tried to answer for the Sailfish, but his shot on target was saved by the Tar's goalie. Tin Vastic put another shot on goal but could not beat the keeper. RC went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

The Tars wasted little time extending their lead in the second half. The Rollins forward dribbled through the PBA backline and buried the host's second goal of the match. Following the goal, RC found itself in another goal-scoring opportunity. A ball played through to the edge of the box baited Onar Einersson out of goal. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, the keeper made contact with the ball with his hands outside the box, resulting in an automatic red card for interfering with a scoring opportunity.

Rollins tacked on another goal three minutes later to take a commanding 3-0 lead. A deflection as PBA tried to head the ball away, landed right at the feet of a Rollins forward, leading to a goal. Rutkowski got the Sailfish on the board by converting on a free kick from outside the box. He shot curled around the defense and found the left side of the net.

The Tars put the game away with 15 minutes to go. Flavio Giannini attempted to clear the ball, but it deflected off the Tars and set up an easy look at goal. Strachan scored PBA's second goal off a corner kick. He made a run to the far post where Augustin Belgiorno's ball fell perfectly at his feet for a goal.

The Sailfish play their final regular season match on Thursday against Tampa. The match at the Rinker Athletic Campus takes place at 7 p.m.
