UMATILLA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team took on Eckerd at a neutral site on Saturday afternoon.
With Eckerd still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Milton, today's match that was supposed to be on Eckerd's campus was moved to the Florida Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla. The Sailfish outhit the Tritons, but EC took advantage of 13 service errors by PBA. The Tritons aced the 'Fish 14 times on their way to a 3-1 win.
Kelsey Rogers led the Sailfish attack with 10 kills, hitting .200.
Savanna Rogers and
Sydney Corbett tied with six kills each.
Abbie Zylstra totaled five kills with 10 digs.
Gabi Ashcraft led the team with 16 digs and 17 assists.
Anna Beth Stokes recorded a team-high 20 assists.
Kaileigh Ammons finished with four kills and three blocks.
Jayna Bredenberg added 15 digs as libero.
"I'm proud of our team and their response to adversity today," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "We continue to control the court, outhitting Eckerd today and matching them defensively. I thought this was our best team defense effort this year, with 3 players in double digits digs. Kelsey had a great match for us as an attacker and blocker while
Harper Stokes did well coming in during the third set and executing at a high level."
The Sailfish serve receive struggled at the beginning of the match, surrendering three aces in Eckerd first four points. PBA hit nearly 10 percent higher in the set, but seven aces by the Tritons, allowed EC to take the opening set 25-19.
PBA returned the favor in the second set, acing the Tritons four times. A kill from S. Rogers gave the 'Fish a 24-23 lead. Eckerd ended the set on a 4-1 run with four kills to take the set, 27-25.
The host's offense went cold in the third set. Eckerd hit -.090 in the set with seven unforced errors from the attack. PBA gifted the Tritons six service errors to keep them in the set. Things looked bleak for the Sailfish as a 3-0 run late in the set gave EC a 23-22 lead. A kill from S. Rogers, an attack error by the Tritons, and a block from K. Rogers and A. Stokes earned the 25-23 lead for the Sailfish.
The Sailfish comeback fell short as the Eckerd attack rebounded in the fourth set. The Tritons hit a match-best .281 in the set to defeat the 'Fish 25-17 and win the match 3-1.

PBA takes on SSC foe Tampa on Monday at 5 p.m. in Rubin Arena.
