Men's Soccer Earns Draw Against Flagler

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team returned to the Rinker Athletic Campus to host Flagler in a nonconference matchup on Saturday night.

The Sailfish surrendered two quick goals out of the gate to the Saints. Flagler got two easy opportunities in transition and converted on each, taking a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of action. The Sailfish regrouped and answered in the second half with a pair of goals to earn a 2-2 tie.

The Saints scored their first goal in less than two minutes. A long ball flew past the Sailfish backline and set up FC with a two-on-one opportunity. Flagler found the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The teams tied with each team notching 10 shots, including five on goal. Four Sailfish attempted two shots each. A PBA turnover in the midfield set up a through ball that created a one-on-one opportunity. The attacking Saint dribbled around the Flavio Giannini in goal to give FC a 2-0 lead.

Agustin Iusem tried to get the Sailfish on the board towards the end of the first half. He turned and struck the ball. His shot was deflected on goal, but the Flagler goalie corralled the save.

Tin Vastic broke through for the Sailfish 12 minutes into the second half. A long pass by Harry Gardner found Vastic in the box whose low shot found the bottom-right corner of the goal. The Sailfish found the equalizer with just over five minutes left in the game. Federico Serra dribbled deep into the attacking third. His cross deflected off the side of Livio Von Holzen and into the net to tie the match at two.

The game broke wide open as the Sailfish kept the pressure on. Von Holzen tried to end the match with a highlight-reel match. He took a hard strike from the edge of the box that beat the keeper but found the crossbar and bounced out of the goal. The 'Fish failed to take the lead but were content to walk away with a 2-2 tie.

The Sailfish return to SSC action on Wednesday with a match against Nova Southeastern. The game at the Rinker Athletic Campus starts at 7 p.m.
