PBA Fall on the Road to Number One Ranked Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team took the short trip down I-95 to face the No. 1 ranked Lynn Fighting Knights in Sunshine State Conference play tonight. Lynn scored from a corner in the second half and held onto a 1-0 victory to drop PBA's record to 5-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in SSC play.

The two sides played a tactical opening 45 minutes of play that saw the ball in the midfield for much of the half. The two sides combined for eight shots but neither side created a great chance. Lynn had a handful of shot attempts from range that goalie Omar Einarsson was able to handle easily while the best PBA chance came from a Harry Gardner freekick which was saved. The two sides went into the lockerroom scoreless and looked like goals would come at a premium between two of the top three sides in the SSC standings.

Einarsson was called upon to make a double save in the 52nd minute to deny Lynn of the best scoring opportunity of the night, but the breakthrough came from the home side 11 minutes later. A corner played into the front post of the box was headed home as PBA looked for an answer.

The two best 'Fish chances came within five minutes of the Lynn goal as Calum Ferguson played a perfectly placed pass to give Narcis Bou Dalmau a header on goal which he put wide. Just a minute later, Bou Dalmau played a through ball to a cutting Gardner whose first-time shot was put wide as he was alone with the keeper.

After those chances, the Fighting Knights were able to put a lid on the Sailfish attack for the most part as the final chance was a last-minute Bou Dalmau freekick that went high. Lynn outshot PBA 14-7 while the shots on goal went in favor of the home side 6-4.

The Sailfish remain third in the SSC standings and look in a strong position to host an SSC Tournament match once postseason play begins. PBA takes a break from league play and will host Flagler this Saturday at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Saints are having a strong season in the Peach Belt and carry an 8-4-2 record overall.
