WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team earned their second straight home win tonight as they hosted Eckerd College at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Sailfish scored one goal in each half as they came away with the 2-0 victory to move to 5-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.
The Sailfish opened the night on the front foot, attacking the Tritons in the opening minutes of play. It took ten minutes for the 'Fish to break through as
Narcis Bou Dalmau found
Tin Vastic on the edge of the box. The Sailfish forward struck a shot that went in off the left post for his second goal of the season. On a windy night in West Palm Beach, the offensive chances were at a premium in the first 45 minutes of play. After the PBA goal, it was the visitors who had four shots on goal but keeper
Omar Einarsson was forced to make just one big save. He denied an Eckerd breakaway with a right-footed kick save as the 'Fish led at the half 1-0.
The two sides traded equal play in the second half. PBA outshot the Tritons 10-5 in the second half but neither side was able to create quality looks at goal as PBA had the two shots on goal. One was saved but the other put the game away late in the 88th minute.
Harry Gardner exploded past three or four Eckerd defenders as he took the ball all the way down the right sideline. He played a ball across to an open
Ole Lichter at the back post who put the ball into an open net for his first goal of the season. The assist takes Gardner's total to four on the year to lead the team.
After giving up five goals at Florida Tech, the Sailfish defense has been sound in their previous two outings. Back-to-back shutouts of Embry-Riddle and Eckerd have the 'Fish sitting in a good spot in the SSC standings in third place as they have gained ground on Florida tech and Lynn.
Up next for PBA, the Sailfish will play one of their biggest matches of the season as they head down south to take on Lynn. The Fighting Knights sit undefeated atop the conference and are the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
