Men's Basketball Downs Lynn at Home

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team looked to get back in the win column on Wednesday when it hosted the Lynn Fighting Knights.

PBA jumped ahead midway through the first half, taking a double-digit lead. Lynn hung around in the second half, cutting the Sailfish lead to four. A dagger 3-pointer from Will Lee made it 66-54 down the stretch and helped the 'Fish hold on to win 76-59.

Grant Ledford led PBA with 19 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Marcus Montalvo finished with 14 points and eight assists with four rebounds. Ryan Claflin scored 12 points, swatted five blocks, and swiped three steals. Trent McNair tallied 11 points with four rebounds. Lee recorded 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds and a steal.

After a slow start to the game offensively, Ledford ignited a 14-0 Sailfish run by knocking down a 3-pointer. Broderick Ellis, Lee, Walker, and Montalvo each got involved in the run. Claflin sent back a layup that was corralled by Walker who took it coast to coast for a layup. Montalvo drove in for a layup to cap off the run, giving the Sailfish a 30-13 lead at the 4:51 mark in the first half.

The run swung all the momentum towards the Sailfish, leading 36-22 at halftime. The PBA defense held Lynn to 31 percent shooting from the field, including 1-for-12 from 3-point range. The 'Fish forced Lynn into 11 turnovers, resulting in 10 points. Ledford totaled 11 points and five boards in the period.

Lynn refused to roll over in the second half. A 9-0 run with a pair of PBA turnovers got the Fighting Knights back in the game, cutting the deficit to seven with 11 minutes to play. Turnovers continued to cost the Sailfish as Lynn made it 52-48 with 8:53 to play. A dunk and a layup by Claflin, followed by a bucket from Ledford restored the PBA lead to 10. The Sailfish kept Lynn at bay for the rest of the game, leading to a 76-59 lead.

Montalvo and Claflin each scored 10 points in the second period. PBA was efficient on the offensive end, shooting 52 percent in the period and making 3-of-6 attempts from deep.

PBA held Lynn to 38 percent from the field in the game and 5-for-25 from 3-point range. The Sailfish won the rebounding battle, 41-33. The Sailfish took advantage of each trip to the free throw line, converting on 16-of-18 attempts.

PBA finishes its homestand on Saturday against Eckerd. The game in Rubin Arena takes place at 4 p.m.
