TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team battled against No. 3-ranked Tampa on Saturday afternoon.
Mary Morgan Formby led the Sailfish with nine kills, but her effort could not prevent a 3-0 Tampa win. Tampa outhit PBA .267 - .019 in the match. The 'Fish finished the match with 26 unforced errors.
Taylor Nelson recorded six kills with nine digs.
Abbie Zylstra tallied five kills and six digs.
Jayden Otto led the 'Fish with 17 assists.
Payton Ahrenstorff recorded a team-high 10 digs.
The Sailfish dropped the first set to the Spartans 25-8. The hosts kept the momentum with a 25-15 win in the second set.
Trying to stay alive, PBA jumped out to a 10-6 lead after a kill by
Taylor Nelson in the third set. Tampa responded with an 11-2 run with three PBA attack errors to retake a 14-11 lead. The Spartans held an 18-14 lead, but the Sailfish battled back with a 7-0 run of their own with a 21-18. The set flipped again with a 5-1 run by Tampa to take a 23-22 lead for the Spartans. PBA tied the set down the stretch three separate times, but the Spartans closed the frame, 27-25.
Sailfish volleyball competes again on Oct. 6 when the squad travels to Saint Leo. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
