FLORENCE, S.C. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team continued play in South Carolina as they took on Francis Marion this afternoon. After winning their first game of the trip 1-0 on Friday against Lander, the Sailfish matched that score today to move their record to 3-1 on the year.
The game was delayed nearly an hour and a half due to inclement weather in the area. Despite the long wait to kickoff time, the Sailfish scored in the opening moments of the game for the third time this season. After an initial PBA corner was headed to the edge of the box,
Narcis Bou Dalmau played it to
Harry Gardner who gathered the ball and his right-footed strike beat the Patriot keeper to the far post to give the 'Fish the lead inside of a minute. The goal is Gardners second on the season and the third assist for Bou Dalmau.
From that point on the Sailfish controlled the game while they held the lead. PBA outshot FMU 5-3 in the half and had 58 percent of the possession as neither side was able to create many clear cut scoring opportunities. The two sides went into the halftime break with the Sailfish leading 1-0.
The Sailfish got the ball into some dangerous areas, especially when the Patriots were pushing to tie the game late, but the final pass was never quite there to add a second goal and put the game away for good. Despite that, the PBA defense was solid once again. The defensive line of
Orion McHugh,
Eden O'Leary, and
Nico Wagner allowed just two shots on goal for the game as
Salvador Plaza recorded his second-straight clean sheet.
After two 1-0 wins over Lander and Francis Marion, the 'Fish return home to the Sunshine State. They get the week off before they are back to action next weekend when they face cross country rival Lynn next weekend in Boca Raton. The match will be a non-conference bout between the two Sunshine State Conference sides but the Sailfish will face a Fighting Knights team that is 4-0 and hasn't allowed a goal all season.
