WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team concluded its sixth season in program history. The Sailfish dropped their regular season finale 21-11 to No. 16 Florida Southern. PBA displayed offensive versatility with nine different goal scorers.
Caleb Southard and
Dylan Insolia led the 'Fish with two goals each. PBA seniors
Jonah Robertson,
Tanner Pohl,
Logan Robbins, and
Henry Sloyan scored one goal. Additionally,
Neil Calkin contributed a goal and
Dylan Hunt scored his first-career goal.
The Mocs took 20 more shots than the Sailfish and committed eight fewer turnovers. Noah McKouen secured 19 faceoffs for PBA. The Sailfish won the faceoff battle 19-16 and picked up ten more ground balls than FSC. Defensively,
Christian Bond led the 'Fish with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Ty Wright and
Hunter Sheffield caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls each.
Sloyan ripped his 20th goal of the season in the first quarter. Sloyan shot right-handed and found the top corner of the net. The next two Sailfish goals came from Southard. At 7:40 in the first quarter, Hunt heaved a long pass down to Southard. Southard shot a bounce shot into an empty net for PBA's second goal. With 13:31 left in the first half, Southard picked up a loose ground ball and scored on a behind-the-back shot. The West Palm Beach native finished his sophomore campaign with 15 goals and 14 assists.
PBA outscored the Mocs 5-4 in the third quarter. At the 13:12 mark, Insolia launched an outside shot to the back of the net. Robbins notched his seventh career goal in transition. The Sailfish senior gained possession on a clear and scored on a fast break. With under eight minutes in the quarter, PBA went on a 3-0 run. At 7:43, Insolia distributed his fourth assist of the year to Calkin. Calkin ripped a sidearm shot and found the net for his 14th goal of the year. Robertson dodged from behind the net and scored his 10th goal of the year. With 4:04 left in the third quarter,
Cooper Porter passed to Pohl around the crease. Pohl pumped in a bounce shot and scored his second goal of the season.
In the final quarter, the 'Fish scored three goals. Hunt took the ball down to the FSC goal on a fast break opportunity. The PBA sophomore from Georgia ripped a long-stick goal with 13:30 left in the game. With 54 seconds left, Insolia tacked on his second goal of the game. Insolia finished his junior-year season with 16 goals. PBA freshman
Keegan Southard and Porter capitalized on a man-up opportunity. Southard assisted Porter around the net with 18 seconds left in the game. Porter's 11th goal of the year was PBA's final of the season.
