LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team gave a good effort, but were unable to avoid getting swept by the Mocs of Florida Southern College. The Mocs took both games in a weekend doubleheader earlier today.
The first game was a tightly contested affair in favor of the Sailfish.
Matty Warren got the first inning started with a lead off single up the middle. He would later find his way to home plate by way of a
Ben Green sacrifice fly ball. The 'Fish were able to hold off the surging offense of FSC until the fourth inning when the Mocs took the lead off of a two run home run out to left center field.
In the sixth, PBA was able to capitalize off of an error by the Mocs to bring the game back to even. The game took a huge swing in the seventh when the Mocs exploded for nine unanswered runs. FSC would tack on one more extra run in the eighth to seal the game, winning 12-2.
The second game of the day was more of the same story. The 'Fish took hold of the game in the first inning largely in part by back to back home runs from
Mikey Casaleggio and
Dre Llopiz, making the score 4-0 at the start. The Mocs would answer with a big inning, scoring eight unanswered runs in the bottom of the first. FSC proceeded to dominate this game by scoring eight more runs across the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings before the Sailfish could put up another run.
PBA would continue to fight in this game. Giovanny Lorenzo would earn an RBI single in the sixth and
Matthew Faranda hit a solo shot out to right center in the seventh. The 'Fish would get three more runs in the eighth inning on back to back RBI singles from
Matty Warren and
Jeremy Texel. The comeback effort from the Sailfish would fall short in the ninth.
PBA returns home for a mid-week game against Nova Southeastern on Apr. 4.
