WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team began a conference series against Florida Southern on Friday night at Simpson Field.
Lacy Marty led the 'Fish with a strong pitching performance. The sophomore hurler tossed a shutout to help PBA extend its winning streak to four games. Clutch extra-base hits from
Evoni Rodriguez and
Gracie Mullett provided the run support as PBA won 5-0.
Marty only surrendered two hits in the game, totaling five strikeouts and no walks.
Daylin Hejtmanek led the 'Fish with two hits. PBA totaled eight hits in the game.
PBA wasted no time putting runs on the board. Hejtmanek and
Briana Rodriguez started the game with a pair of singles. E. Rodriguez smashed a line drive to the left-field fence that gave PBA a 2-0 lead.
That was plenty of run support for Marty who cruised through the FSC lineup. The Sailfish scored again in the fourth inning after a two-out rally. Reigning SSC Player of the Week,
Larken Maseda started the action with a double to left-centerfield.
Bella O'Connor singled through the left side to put runners on first and third.
Isabella Hernandez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.
Gracie Mullett crushed a double to the fence that cleared the bases and gave PBA a 5-0 advantage.
Marty tied a season-high with five strikeouts in the game. She allowed runners in the sixth and seventh innings but was able to escape both innings unscathed to complete the 5-0 shutout.
The Sailfish complete the series against Florida Southern with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Simpson Field.
