Softball Shuts Out Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team began its series against Lynn on Friday night in a single game.

The Sailfish (9-16, 2-11 SSC) had two explosive innings to start the contest. PBA plated eight runs, plenty of run support for its pitching staff. Lacy Marty, Ashlyn Storms, and Karen Vasquez combined to shut out the Fighting Knights (17-16, 7-6 SSC) in five innings. The 'Fish won in dominant fashion, 8-0.

PBA's 10 hits came from five players, including PBA's first four batters in the lineup. Daylin Hejtmanek, Briana Rodriguez, Evoni Rodriguez, Dallas Watterson, and Larken Maseda recorded two hits each.

The 'Fish started the game with four straight singles, including an RBI single up the middle from Watterson to put PBA ahead, 1-0. Larken Maseda sent a hard groundball through the left side that scored two more runs and gave PBA a 3-0 lead through one frame.

A leadoff walk from Gracie Mullett, an error, and another walk from B. Rodriguez set up an RBI single to centerfield by E. Rodriguez. Watterson broke the game open with a two-run double to right field that scored Hejtmanek and B. Rodriguez. E. Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0 before Watterson scored from third on a second wild pitch to make it 8-0.

PBA planned to have a bullpen game in the circle. Marty got the start, pitching two innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout. Storms pitched one hitless inning with one strikeout. Vasquez tossed two innings, surrendering one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

The Sailfish play two games against Lynn tomorrow. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Simpson Field.
