Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six in Win Over Tars

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team hosted Rollins in a Sunshine State Conference matchup on Saturday.

The Sailfish (7-1, 2-0 SSC) entered the game on a six-game winning streak and has beaten Rollins (3-4, 0-2 SSC) in six of the last seven matchups. PBA attacked Rollins' zone defense from beyond the arc. The Sailfish shot 29 3-pointers, converting on 11 of them. The 'Fish defense frustrated the Tars all game, holding RC to 39 percent from the field. The Sailfish controlled the game from the jump, winning 85-70. The win moves PBA to 7-1, its best start since the 1974-75 season.

Will Lee led PBA with 18 points, knocking down four 3-pointers. Dan Braster scored 16 points with six assists, five rebounds, and five steals. Broderick Ellis scored 14 points with four rebounds and a block. Marcus Montalvo tallied 11 points with three triples and four rebounds. Bryce Laskey added nine points with three rebounds and two steals.

The Sailfish took control of the game immediately. A barrage of threes from Lee, Montalvo, and Laskey, along with some stout defense, allowed the Sailfish to build a 20-6 lead through the first 10 minutes of action. A putback layup by Grant Ledford gave the 'Fish its largest lead of the half, 33-14 at the four-minute mark. The Tars countered PBA by getting to the free-throw line. Converting at the charity stripe allowed Rollins to stay in the game and make it 33-22 at halftime.

Lee led the 'Fish with eight points in the first half. The Sailfish defense held Rollins to 24 percent from the field in the opening period.

The Sailfish was running on all cylinders in the second period. PBA shot 61 percent from the field in the period, including 40 percent from beyond the arc. 3-pointers from Lee and Montalvo helped increase the lead to 74-51 with seven minutes to play. Ellis finished a pair of big plays in the paint, including a posterizing dunk that maintained the lead for the 'Fish. Saturday's game was never in doubt as the 'Fish coasted to an 85-70 win.

The 'Fish outshot the Tars 61 percent to 39 percent in the game. RC shot 6-of-23 from 3-point range. Rollins came out ahead in the rebounding battle, 38-33, but it only led to 11 second-chance points. PBA shared the ball well, assisting on 24 of its 29 field goals in the game.

PBA has the week off before facing a big test next Saturday. The Sailfish traveled to Fort Lauderdale to face Nova Southeastern, the No. 1-ranked team in the NABC top 25. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
