WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team returned to action tonight by hosting an out-of-conference opponent, Mount Olive, at Rubin Arena. The Sailfish were in control from the jump as their hot shooting and shutdown defense led to an 84-37 victory. PBA's record moves to 4-5 overall with the victory.
The Sailfish entered tonight on a three-game skid to open up Sunshine State Conference play, but they played like they were determined to put an end to that tonight. PBA came out on fire from the floor as they opened 9-of-12 from the field in the first quarter and were 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point line. It was a balanced attack from the 'Fish as seven different players scored in the first ten minutes to give PBA a 23-7 lead early on.
PBA erased any doubt in the second quarter when they outscored the Trojans 24-7 to take an insurmountable lead.
Jahnae Midget provided a big spark off the bench with eight points in the quarter while as a team the Sailfish continued to shoot over 60 percent as they went 10-of-16 from the field. PBA shared the ball beautifully as they assisted on 13-of-19 makes in the first half to lead 47-14 at the half.
The Sailfish kept their foot on the gas throughout the game as
Ashleigh Boulin led the Sailfish offense in the paint. She had 17 points and seven rebounds as she went 8-of-9 from the floor on the night. PBA came back to life shooting in the second half but were still over 45 percent from the field as they held down the Trojans 21 percent for the game.
Karyzma Pierre played a strong part in that defensive effort as she guarded the Trojan's star player Laila Anderson, who averages over 20 ppg, to 12 points on 5-of-16 shooting.Â
Kash Ayuso wasn't forced to have the burden of the offense on her back tonight as she did a little bit of everything on the court tonight as she finished with an efficient 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Nine different Sailfish scored a bucket tonight in PBA's dominant win as
Jillian Schenk reached double-figures with 10 points while
Zoe Wortinger and
Claire Davis each added nine off the bench. Reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week
Mariyah Fletcher put in another strong performance as she finished with eight points, 13 rebounds, and six assists.
The 'Fish will hope to build off the victory tonight as they continue non-conference play next week. They head down to Boca Raton where they will face Bowie State on Dec. 18 and then play Shaw the following day.Â
