Volleyball Takes Down Panthers on the Road

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team traveled to play SSC foe Florida Tech on Friday night.

The Sailfish sought revenge after dropping a five-set match to the Panthers earlier this season. PBA avenged the loss, defeating Florida Tech in four sets. The Sailfish outhit FT .295 - .205 in the victory.

Mary Morgan Formby led the 'Fish attack with 15 kills, hitting .275. Kaileigh Ammons tallied 13 kills, hitting .367 with five blocks. Abbie Zylstra recorded 13 digs with 11 kills. Harper Stokes notched eight kills, hitting .500. Jayden Otto finished with 35 assists and six digs. Payton Ahrenstorff totaled a team-high 15 digs.

The first set was tightly contested with each team trading leads. A kill from Formby gave PBA a 23-22 lead, but a kill from the Panthers tied the set at 23. A kill from Formby and a pair of errors by the hosts helped PBA take an early advantage in the match, winning the first set 26-24.

The Sailfish improved their hitting percentage in the second set, but so did the Panthers. FT limited its attack errors in the second set, helping them end the frame on a 10-2 run, resulting in a 25-22 win.

PBA's front line stepped up in the third set, recording three blocks, frustrating the Panther attack. Florida Tech hit just .130 as PBA regained the lead by taking the set 26-24. The Sailfish ended the match on a high note. The squad hit a match-best .452 in the fourth set. PBA ran away with the set, winning 25-15 and clinching a 3-1 win.

The Sailfish play their final match of the season on Saturday against Rollins. The Match in Winter Park, Fla. takes place at 4 p.m.
