WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer faced off with Saint Leo in a rescheduled conference match from a month prior. The Sailfish needed all three points to keep their Sunshine State Conference Tournament hopes alive. They came out on top with a 1-0 victory to move their record to 6-7-2 overall and keep postseason hopes alive.
Â
In a thrilling first half, PBA's came out of the gates strong and the aggression was evident from the get-go with numerous attempts on goal. Lions' goalie Ricardo Ceballos was kept busy, most notably saving a crucial corner kick 16 minutes into the game. Despite the consistent pressure, it wasn't until the dying moments of the half that
Narcis Bou Dalmau broke through for PBA. Dalmau netted the sole goal of the game with only 38 seconds remaining, his team-leading sixth goal of the season, assisted by
Nicklas Clausen.
Â
The intensity didn't wane in the second half. Both teams had multiple chances to score but failed to convert. PBA's goalkeeper,
Omar Einarsson, thwarted two key corner kick attempts by the Lions, keeping the Sailfish in the lead. The Bou Dalmau goal proved decisive, as neither team managed to find the back of the net in the second half, ending the game 1-0 in favor of PBA where the Sailfish outshot the Lions 21-14 on the day.
Â
Throughout the match, PBA showed offensive dominance.
Yannick Toth,
Tin Vastic, and Bou Dalmau stood out with a combined total of 14 shots. Einarsson also played a pivotal role with three crucial saves for PBA while
Eden O'Leary and
Orion McHugh were strong in the center of the Sailfish defense.
Â
With this win, PBA's overall record now stands at 3-5-1 in SSC play. PBA will be back in action on Nov. 3, facing off against Embry-Riddle University. A PBA win and a Florida Tech result against Florida Southern will see the Sailfish into the SSC Tournament. Â
