Sailfish Fall to Saint Leo

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Earlier today, the Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team began their final home series of the season against Saint Leo. The game was tightly contested, but the Lions were able to hold off the Sailfish late.

It was a back and forth game in the early goings. Both teams went scoreless in the first and second innings but got a run each in the third to open things up. The Lions led off the inning with an RBI double to right center. PBA would hold of the Lions from doing any more damage and would respond with a run of their own. Matty Warren led off the back half of the inning with a single and would later steal second base. Sean Houck was able to get Warren home to score with a single to left field.

In the fourth, the 'Fish were able to extend their lead to 2-1 over the third ranked team in the NCAA South Region. Mikey Casaleggio and Nate Housen would reach base to start the half inning, and a Jeff Manto sacrifice bunt would get them into scoring position. Matthew Faranda was able to put the ball into play well enough to get Casaleggio in to score and pick up his seventh RBI of the season.

PBA would go scoreless for the remainder of the game, as the Saint Leo bullpen gave the Sailfish hitters a tough time in the later stretches. The Lions would get a run in the fifth inning to tie the game up at 2-2 and would pull away with a run in the seventh inning off of a sacrifice fly ball.

The two teams were looking to continue their scheduled doubleheader game, but after one and a half innings some inclement weather forced the game to be postponed. The final home games for the Sailfish will continue tomorrow  May 1.
