BRADENTON, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team fell to the No. 3 Barry Buccaneers 4-0 in the first round of the Sunshine State Tournament on Friday.
For doubles competition,
Roberto Binaghi and
Luis Eduardo Platas dropped their match 6-3.
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Blake Williams fell 6-1.
Jorge Santamaria and
Umberto Rosi's matches were unfinished.
In singles competition, Eduardo Platas dropped his match 6-1, 6-0. Hasegawa fell 6-1, 6-2. Williams was downed 6-1, 6-2. Singles matches for
Juan Fernandez, Santamaria and Binaghi were all unfinished.
The marks the end of the 2022 season for the Sailfish. The 'Fish made a five-win improvement last year under first-year head coach
Carlos Cardona. Victories over Rollins on Feb. 5 and Southeastern on Feb.10 gave PBA its first 2-0 start since 2008. The Sailfish were ranked as high as No. 28 in the ITA national rankings during the season.
Jorge Santamaria (9-4) led the 'Fish in singles play. The PBA tandem of
Blake Williams and
Rodolfo Hasegawa put together and impressive doubles campaign with a 13-2 record.
