WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team defeated the Hillsdale Chargers 5-2 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. PBA (5-6) is riding a four-game winning streak with victories over Southern New Hampshire (Mar. 10), Rockhurst (Mar. 12), Wayne State (Mar. 15), and Hillsdale.
The Chargers took the doubles portion of the game. The only victory for the Sailfish during the doubles competition came from
Verena Weindl and
Jasmine Williams. The PBA pair took down Libby McGivern and Ellie Chawner 7-5.
Elvira Edstrom and
Anabelle Robichaud fell 7-5. A tandem of Italian freshman
Cecilia Peroni and
Greta Langiu fell 6-4.
Down 1-0 the 'Fish put together five singles victories to settle the score.
Frida Alsterhem beat Helana Formentin 6-3, 6-2. Robichaud dropped her match in two sets 6-4, 6-0. Peroni earned her sixth singles victory of the year over Sophia Spinazze 6-1, 6-4. Peroni (6-0) is undefeated in singles competition this season. Weindl picked up a three-set win against McGivern 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Langiu competed in the singles lineup for the first time this season. She earned her first singles win of the season over Chawner 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Edstrom pulled out a three-set victory over Sarah Hackman 2-6, 7-6, 6-0. Alsterhem and Edstrom both won their third consecutive singles match.
Next, the Sailfish will put their streak to the test in Miami Shores. PBA faces No. 1 Barry on Sunday, Mar. 20.
