Sailfish Win Third Straight 12-8

TIGERVILLE, SC- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team picked up its third straight victory 12-8 over North Greenville in South Carolina. This is the first three-game winning streak for PBA (4-3) since 2019. 

Hunter Hopman started the game with a highlight-reel goal. Hopman rolled toward the goal and shot the ball one-handed to give the 'Fish a 1-0 lead with 12:44 in the first quarter. With the game tied 1-1, the Sailfish went on a 4-0 run. Henry Sloyan dodged from behind the net and ripped a shot for PBA's second goal of the day. Sloyan finished the game with a hat-trick to bring his season goal total to 10. 

At the 4:25 mark in the first quarter, Caleb Southard connected with Ben Justice. Justice scored from point-blank to build PBA's lead to 3-1. Off the ensuing faceoff, PBA defender Gunner Gebelein possessed the ground ball and passed it to Austin Evan. Gebelein cut to the goal and Evans found him for a 4-1 lead. Gebelein's give-and-go resulted in his third goal of the season. The Maryland native recorded one goal, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. 

Zach Holmes earned his first point of the season when he assisted Evans with 10:47 left in the second quarter. With the score at 5-1, the Crusaders answered back with a 3-0 run of their own. Hopman found Justice in front of the net with three minutes left in the first half to stop the bleeding. Justice's second goal of the game gave PBA a 6-4 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders came out of halftime firing as they opened up the second half on another 3-0 run. NGU capitalized off Sailfish penalties at the start of the second half and scored two man-up goals. PBA tied the game at seven when defender Teagan Hersh ran a fast break and hit Evans in stride for his third goal of the day. Hersh recorded one assist, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Evans had three goals, and one assist on the day. 

 NGU scored 19 seconds into the fourth quarter to take an 8-7 lead. Trailing by one, the Sailfish pumped in two goals in a minute. With 14:00 left in the game Dylan Insolia, assisted Evans who tied the game at eight. One minute later the 'Fish struck again when Sloyan buried his second goal of the game with 13:00 left. Sloyan tacked on an insurance goal with 8:09 left when he shook his defender and launched a bounce shot to build PBA's lead to 10-8. Insolia tacked on another when he scored his third goal of the season with 5:20 left. The Sailfish took advantage of an NGU penalty when Justice scored his third goal of the game to close out the 12-8 victory. 

PBA won the face-off battle 12-10 and went 17-22 on clears. PBA goalkeeper Ben Lightsey made 10 saves. 

Next, PBA will go for its fourth consecutive win against Colorado Mesa on Wednesday Mar. 16 at home.
