WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team dropped the home opener to No.6 Flagler 5-2 on Sunday. It was the first match for the women's team under first year head coach
Carlos Cardona.
A bright spot during doubles competition came from the tandem of
Alessia Passerini and
Jasmine Williams. The pair defeated Flagler's Anika Nissen and Gianna Rosato 7-6.
Courtney Page and Verena Wiendl lost to 6-3 to Luisa Hrda and Alice Benvegnu.
Elvira Edstrom and
Anabelle Robichaud fell to Eden Shlagenhauf and
Anabelle Robichaud 6-1.
In singles competition PBA's
Courtney Page lost to Lu Hrda 6-2, 6-0.
Elvira Edstrom dropped a close two set match to Eden Shlagenhauf 6-3, 6-4.
Verena Weindl fell against Ale Traub 6-4, 6-1.
Jasmine Williams dropped a two set match to Anika Nissen 6-3, 6-1
Victories in singles competition came from
Alessia Passerini and
Anabelle Robichaud. Passerini defeated Flo Massardo in three sets. After dropping the first set 6-4, Passerini came back taking the last two sets 7-5, 6-2.
Anabelle Robichaud pulled away from a tight two set match against Alice Benvegnu 7-5,6-4.
The Sailfish drop to 0-1 on the season. Up next both the women's tennis team takes on St. Thomas on Wednesday Feb. 9.
