SAINT LEO, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team fell to No. 9 Saint Leo Lions 6-1 on Saturday. For PBA (1-2) it was their first Sunshine State Conference clash of the season.
In doubles competition,
Elvira Edstrom and
Anabelle Robichaud lost 6-1 to SLU's Nina Furmaniak and Alina Fedulova 6-1. The group of Verena Wiendl and
Cecilia Peroni fell 6-0 to Marta Vicens Miquel and Lavinia Lancellotti. The PBA pair of
Alessia Passerini and
Jasmine Williams went to a tiebreaker against Celina Ermann and Maria Valverde Soler. Passerini and Williams dropped the tiebreaker 3-0 to lose 7-6.
In singles competition, Edstrom fell 6-0. 6-1 to Miquel. Wiendl dropped her singles match against to Ermann 6-2 in consecutive sets. Robichaud lost 6-1, 6-1 to Lancellotti. SLU's Valverde Soler defeated PBA's
Alisa Grachova 6-1, 6-0. Williams dropped her singles match against Alina Fedulova 6-1, 6-1. For the 'Fish, their lone win came from Passerini. Passerini defeated Furmaniak 6-4, 6-3.
Up next, PBA will have a quick turnaround when they face Rollins on Sunday Feb. 13 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
