Sailfish Sweep Eagles at Home

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Fresh off a five-set win on Friday night, the Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team hosted Embry-Riddle on Saturday.

The Sailfish sought revenge after losing the first match at ERAU (13-10, 4-8 SSC)  earlier this season. PBA (12-10, 6-6 SSC) got its revenge, sweeping the Eagles in three sets, and holding ERAU to a .096 hitting percentage.

Kayla Matthews led PBA's attack with 16 kills, hitting .371 with seven digs. Abbie Zylstra totaled 12 kills, hitting an efficient .393. Mary Morgan Formby led the squad with a .400 hitting percentage, seven kills, and four blocks. Jayden Otto recorded 33 assists and nine digs. Lauren Cummings tied Otto for a team-high nine assists as libero.

The first set was tight until the very end. Matthews got to work early, recording six kills in the opening set. A kill from the senior tied it at 21 and kickstarted a 4-0 run that put PBA ahead 24-21. Zylstra closed out the set for PBA to win, 25-22.

Each set in the match was neck and neck. PBA started to gain some breathing room midway through the set. Two kills from Formby ignited a 4-0 run, putting the 'Fish ahead 22-18. A block from Formby and a pair of kills from Zylstra sealed the 25-20 set win for the Sailfish.

The 'Fish held a more commanding lead in the third set. Unforced errors cost the Eagles, and the duo of Zylstra and Formby continued their strong play. A swing from Zylstra made it a 15-11 PBA lead. Matthews got back in on the action to eventually make it 23-14 Sailfish. A kill each from Formby and Matthews put the set away 25-17 and completed the sweep.

PBA hit .327 as a team in the match. The Eagles totaled 25 unforced errors compared to just 12 for the Sailfish.

PBA hits the road for its next match on Tuesday to play Nova Southeastern. The match in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. starts at 7 p.m.
