Men's Basketball Stunned by Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday for an SSC matchup against Rollins.

The Sailfish bested the Tars when they played Rollins at home earlier this season on Nov. 20. The Tars (10-5, 5-6 SSC) got revenge on the Sailfish in the rematch to tie the season series. PBA (5-12, 5-6 SSC) fell behind after ending the first half on a five-minute scoring drought and the hosts never looked back, winning the game 88-65.

Marcus Montalvo was the leading scorer for the Sailfish, recording 21 points off the bench with four 3-pointers and five rebounds. Jakob Hester led the starting unit with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Jalen Cooper had nine rebounds, six assists, and four rebounds.  Will Lee had eight points, with four rebounds and three assists. Alexander Gorton grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with five points.

Neither team jumped out to a large lead early in the game. The first 10 minutes of action were closely contested, with Rollins holding a 23-17 lead with 11 minutes to go in the period. Rollins began to pull away thanks to three free throws, a 3-pointer, and a pair of pullup jumpers to lead 34-22 with six minutes and thirty seconds left in the period.

PBA battled back with a 6-0 run, including five points from Gorton to cut the deficit to six points with five minutes to play. Rollins extended its lead again, ending the half on a 10-0 run which included five Sailfish turnovers. The Tars led 44-28 at halftime.

Rollins kept the momentum from the first half rolling, extending its lead to 34 through the first 10 minutes of the second half. PBA kept fighting until the final whistle, cutting the deficit down to 22 before Rollins closed out the 88-65 win.

The 'Fish were held to 35 percent shooting from the field, and a 31 percent performance from beyond the arc.

PBA returns home on Wednesday for a matchup against top-5 ranked Nova Southeastern. The game at Rubin Arena takes place at 7:30 p.m.
