LAKELAND, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team started conference play with a 2-0 victory over Florida Southern on the road. PBA (4-1, 1-0 SSC) extended it's win streak to three games.
As a result of suffocating defense on both sides, the Sailfish struggled to generate offense in the first half. The first 45 featured only eight shots between both teams. With 11 minutes left in the half, FSC threatened. FSC freshman midfielder Elene Brkic kicked a low roller near the left side of the net. A diving save from PBA goalkeeper
Rachel Neumann prevented the Moccasins from getting on the board. Neumann finished the game with seven saves and recorded a shut out and win in the process. The Sailfish have not lost this season when Neumann starts in goal.
Despite the Moccasins maintaining possession for 57% of the first half the score was tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
With the game at a stalemate, the Sailfish would strike in the 54th minute. Senior midfielder
Sydney Timmes initiated a fast-break and distributed the ball near the box.
Halie Reznik shot the ball that rolled off the corner of the post. The goal was Reznik's first of the season. With a 1-0 lead, the Sailfish wasted little time adding an insurance goal. In the 60th minute
Maddie McCarty delivered a corner kick to senior midfielder
Kylie Meola in front of the net. Meola found the back of the net for her second goal of the year. The assist was McCarty's second of the season.
PBA closed out the game 2-0 and earned its first SSC win.
Up next the Sailfish take on Saint Leo on the road on Sep. 25th.
