Sailfish Offense Shines Against Florida Memorial

WEST PALM BEACH. Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Florida Memorial University Lions (0-4) on Thursday night. The Sailfish have now won three straight at home to begin their season.

Despite the game being delayed for over an hour, PBA (3-1) wasted little time getting on the board. Midfielder Sydney Timmes started the scoring frenzy for the Sailfish. In the eighth minute of the game, midfielder Wilma Ritzen assisted Timmes on the strike giving the Sailfish a 1-0 lead. That combination struck again when Ritzen connected with Timmes on a corner kick. Timmes finished with a header to the right corner of the goal extending the Sailfish lead to 2-0. Timmes finished the game with two goals and one assist. She currently leads the team in goals with three.

Kelly Giddes joined the scoring party in the 15th minute with a deep kick from just inside the box. The goal extended the Sailfish lead to 3-0 and was Giddes' first goal of the season. The Sailfish continued to capitalize off corner kicks as they struck in the 17th minute when Lea Loubier delivered a corner to Marina Leal. Leal's header brought the Sailfish lead to 4-0. The goal was Leal's first of the season.

The Sailfish displayed great depth with 29 players seeing action, and six different goal scorers. Freshman Serena D'Anna scored her first goal with the Sailfish in the 32nd minute when she blasted a line drive heater building the Sailfish lead to 5-0. Freshman Isabella Reinhardt and redshirt senior Anna Vila added on to the big lead for the Sailfish by notching their first goals of the season to put the final touches on a 7-0 scoreline.

Every goalie on PBA's roster made an appearance in a combined shutout. Rachel Neumann started the game followed by Madison Chiola and Taylor Jackson, before Gaby Lopez closed out the match.

PBA looks towards conference play, when it travels on the road to Florida Southern on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
