WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team hit the road to finish their season this afternoon against Rollins. After a low-scoring opening half, the Tars offense pulled away from the Sailfish as PBA fell 14-7.
The Sailfish jumped out to an opening lead as the Sailfish defense was locked in early on. After nearly 13 scoreless minutes of play,
Zack Figura opened the scoring in the game, but the story for the Sailfish was the defense early on. They held the Tars without a goal in the opening quarter forcing 10 Rollins turnovers. PBA goalie
Gerrit Kurtycz kept the shutout early on by making four first-quarter saves.
The Sailfish doubled their lead to start the second quarter as they took advantage of a man-up opportunity when
Austin Evans found
Christopher Tucker at the 14:27 mark. The Tars finally broke through the stingy Sailfish defense as they scored three goals in the subsequent five minutes. Evans got a goal of his own with six minutes remaining in the quarter to tie the game 3-3 but the Tars added one more before half and led 4-3 at the break.
Down just one goal coming out of the locker room, the Sailfish were blitzed by a 5-0 Rollins scoring run to go up 9-3 and put the game away.
Zack Figura broke the Tars run by scoring a man-up goal with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter. Rollins would score the next three goals to make it 12-4 and pull away from the 'Fish.
Zach Holmes, Figura, and
Hunter Hopman would all score late for the Sailfish as the game ended 14-7 in the Tars favor.
Teagan Hersh and
Gunner Gebelein each led PBA in groundballs with five each while Gebelein added four caused turnovers. PBA senior
Zack Figura led the 'Fish in scoring by ending his Sailfish career with a hat trick. Rollins outshot PBA 27-17 in shots on goal while the Tars also won the battle in the faceoff circle winning 18 of 24 opportunities.
The Sailfish finish their season with a 1-8 record against an all-Sunshine State Conference schedule with the win coming against Saint Leo 14-10 on April 22.
