Baseball Starts Lynn Series With Two Road Wins

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team continued their busy week of action by starting a four-game series against the Lynn Fighting Knights this afternoon. The Sailfish took both games of the doubleheader today behind their hot bats as they have now won three in a row and moved their season record to 6-10.

Game 1: PBA 8, Lynn 4

In their second game of the week, the Sailfish handed the ball to Drew Holweger to make his second start of the year to begin the Lynn series. He fared much better in his second outing as he shut down Lynn's offense early and allowed his bats to give him a lead. Jake Roper singled home leadoff man Landen Morrison in the top of the first to give PBA a fast start and a 1-0 lead. The 'Fish would add one more run in the second as Sebastian Salado scored on a Carlos Lara single to double the lead. Holweger was solid through the first four innings before he touched up in the fifth for three singles and a run that ended his day. He finished with a line of 4.1 innings, six hits, six strikeouts, and the one earned run.

Andrew Sieczkowski was the first man out of the pen for the Sailfish and he was able to prevent any further damage in the innings as he retired the next two batters to leave the bases loaded. Unfortunately in the next inning, the Fighting Knights took the lead off Sieczkowski as he surrendered three runs in the home half of the six and PBA trailed 4-2. The Sailfish offense had their pitchers back however as Ramon Machado homered in the top of the next innings to score Morrison and tie the game 4-4.

Troy Klemm was the next arm used for the 'Fish and delivered his best outing of the season, going 3.1 innings giving up just one hit while striking out five. He also would be the winning pitcher of record as the Sailfish offense would blow the game open in the top of the eighth against the Lynn bullpen. Two free passes to start the inning and three straight Sailfish singles by Lara, Morrison, and Machado put PBA ahead for good as they won 8-4.

The Sailfish outhit the Knights 12-10 as four Sailfish, Machado, Morrison, Roper, and Lara recorded multi-hit games. The Sailfish pitchers were able to get out of trouble as they forced 13 stranded Lynn baserunners. Morrison and Machado continued to keep the Sailfish offense rolling at the top of the lineup as they combined to score four runs and to drive in five.

Game 2: PBA 7, Lynn 3

The Sailfish wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the second game as Landen Morrison led off the game with a double and was brought home on a Brandon Seltzer fielder's choice. Jake Sciarrotta got the ball for the Sailfish to start the seven-inning game two of the doubleheader as the PBA reliever opened the first two innings giving up two runs in the first and striking out four.

The Sailfish offense took over the game in the third and fourth innings as they strung together six hits in the third to score three runs. PBA added three more in the fourth taking advantage of walks and defensive errors from the home side to take a controlling 7-2 lead. Justin Lovell was fantastic out of the pen for the Sailfish as he went the next four innings giving up just three hits and one run in the fourth while striking out five batters and earning the win.

The combination of hot Sailfish bats and avoiding the big innings for Sailfish pitchers allowed PBA to take both legs of the doubleheader today. The 'Fish recorded another 12 hits in game two as Morrison ignited the lineup from the leadoff spot reaching base three times, scoring three runs, and driving in two runs. Brandon Seltzer brought home three Sailfish runners while Jake Roper recorded another multi-hit game as the beginning of the lineup has been on fire for PBA. They also got big contributions from the bottom in game two with the seven, eight, and nine hitters of Sebastian Salado, Dylan Tosto, and Carlos Lara all going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Sailfish will be back in action tomorrow to finish up the series with the Fighting Knights as the two sides will play another doubleheader. The first game will begin at noon with a seven-inning second game being played at Jake Rubin Park.
