Arturo Tosses No-Hitter vs. No. 8 Rollins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team looked to avenge its losses from Thursday when it hosted No. 8-ranked Rollins at Simpson Field on Saturday.

The Sailfish offense was missing again for the majority of the doubleheader, but strong performances in the circle kept PBA in the game. Abbey Busby allowed just one earned run in game one, but PBA (12-11, 10-8 SSC) still fell, 2-0. Cambria Arturo held the Tars (14-1, 11-1 SSC) hitless in game two, but PBA was unable to push across a run as a costly error allowed Rollins to win, 1-0.

The Sailfish are scheduled to face Nova Southeastern in a doubleheader on Wednesday. Game one in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Game one: Rollins 2, PBA 0

Rollins had a chance to start the game with a run with two hits in the top of the first, but Busby slammed the door on the Tars. RC did strike first in the third after a fielder's choice and stolen base set up a squeeze play for the Tars to make it 1-0. The Sailfish got their first hit in the bottom of the inning by Hayley Haas, but she was stranded on first.

The Tars added an insurance run in the fifth inning. With a runner on first a passed ball allowed the Rollins baserunner to advance all the way to third base. Maura Glatczak's throw was just out of the reach of Katherine Budnovich at third, resulting in the errant throw going into left field, allowing the runner to score, making it 2-0.

Haas led off the sixth inning with a single for PBA, but she was stranded again. The Sailfish's best chance to score came in the seventh inning. Singles by Budnovich and Emma Gipson along with a Rollin's error, loaded the bases for PBA. Unfortunately for the 'Fish the game ended on a strikeout to seal the 2-0 Rollins win.

Hass produced half of PBA's hits in the game. Busby finished with one earned runs in seven innings pitched with seven hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Game two: Rollins 1, PBA 0

Offense was absent for both teams in the second game. The first hit for either team took place in the third when PBA's Briana Rodriguez burned a Rollins outfielder for a single. Unfortunately for PBA, she was stranded on first. Arturo mowed through the Tars lineup throughout the game. The sophomore pitcher was perfect in the circle through the first six innings of play.

Budnovich tried to start a rally for the 'Fish with a two-out single, but she was also stranded at first. Rollins only offense in the game came in the seventh inning. A leadoff throwing error on a bunt allowed the Tars to start the inning with a runner on third. A sacrifice fly scored the lone run of the game as Arturo set the remainder of RC's lineup down in order.

The Sailfish had a chance to win it in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, Dallas Watterson singled up the middle and advanced to second on another base knock by Haas. Glatczak loaded the bases with a popup that fell between the shortstop and pitcher. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, the game ended on another strikeout to finish the 1-0 win for Rollins.

Arturo's no-hitter is the first for PBA since 2019. and the third since 2010. She finished with one run scored and seven strikeouts.
