WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach women's tennis team celebrated its seniors on Saturday before competing against Tampa.
The Sailfish got on top early by winning the doubles point, but ultimately fell short in the match, 5-2. PBA (1-6, 1-6 SSC) came from behind in doubles play after
Elvira Edstrom and
Quinty Janssen dropped their match at the No. 1 position, 6-3.
Verena Weindl and
Madison Bezner kept the 'Fish alive with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Rebecca Keijzerwaard and
Marie Bertran de Balanda clinched the point for the Sailfish with a close 7-6 (8) win at the No. 2 spot.
Tampa (2-6, 2-6 SSC) evened the score after Janssen took the loss at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-1. Edstrom fell at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1, which gave the Spartans the lead. Keijzerwaard evened the score at two by picking up a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 1 position. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, that was their last win of the evening. Bezner came up short at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Annabelle Robichaud's 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, loss at No. 5 singles clinched the match for Tampa. Lastly, Balanda lost a hard-fought match at No. 4 singles, 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-4.
Today's match was the final home event of the season for PBA. They are scheduled to face Lynn in Boca Raton, Fla. on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
