11/3/2021 2:30:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team was ranked second in Super-Region 2 of the NCAA's second rankings released this afternoon. The Sailfish wrapped up their regular season with a 13-1 record and 9-1 in Sunshine State Conference play which resulted in a co-conference title. Super-Region 2 is made up of teams from the Sunshine State Conference, Gulf South Conference, Conference Carolinas, South Atlantic Conference, and Peach Belt Conference.

The NCAA region rankings are used to determine teams that qualify for the postseason and determine hosting through the seeding process. The top-10 teams in each of the four super regions will qualify for the postseason. Young Harris moves into the top spot in the region while Tampa, Limestone, and Auburn Montgomery round out the top-5 of Super-Region 2 behind PBA. The Sailfish may be part of the most difficult region in the country as they have the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country according to the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The region also features No. 9 ranked Tampa, No. 15 ranked Limestone, and No. 17 ranked Lynn.

The Sailfish are coming off a 1-0 win at Barry on Tuesday night which finished off their regular season. Twan Nieboer scored the game-winning goal in the 34th minute as the defender came forward for a PBA corner. He rose above the Bucs defense and powered home a header off the Quenzi Huerman delivery to score his second goal of the season. Huerman continues to lead the Sailfish and the SSC in assists as he now has eight on the season.

The Sailfish appear set to earn their sixth straight NCAA postseason birth, which is the longest mark of any team in the SSC. Capturing their fourth SSC title, the 'Fish have the most conference championships since they joined the SSC full time in 2016. Head coach Brian McMahon earned his 103rd victory at the helm of the PBA men's soccer program which now ties him for the most wins in program history. He currently has a 103-21-11record since he began leading PBA in 2014.

Up next for PBA, the Sailfish will host a semifinals match on Nov. 11 against the winner of a game between No. 4 seed Nova Southeastern and No. 5 seed Florida Southern. The Sailfish defeated Florida Southern 1-0 earlier in the season and took down No. 13 ranked NSU 4-0.
