ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team traveled to face Eckerd College for their second straight road Sunshine State Conference tilt. The No. 5 ranked Sailfish cruised to a 5-1 victory as their offense scored a season-high in a win that takes the PBA record to 11-1 and 7-1 in SSC play.
For the second straight contest, the 'Fish didn't take long to get on the board over an opponent well below them in the standings. In the seventh minute,
Nemanja Zivanovic outworked two Triton defenders to get on the end of a cross from
Nicholas Oberrauch. Zivanovic didn't get much on his flick shot but it forced a save and the ball rebounded out to
Federico Serra who blasted the ball into the top of the net. Just ten minutes later Zivanovic was at it again as the forward flicked a pass beyond the defensive line that
Fred Ferreira ran onto. Ferreira dribbled around the keeper and doubled the Sailfish lead.
The Sailfish scored their third of the half when
Andres Flores streaked into the box with the ball in the 23rd minute. He could have gone for goal himself but he played the extra pass over to Ferreira who beat a sprawling Tritons goalie for his second of the game. The 'Fish weren't done attacking in the opening half as they went into their deep and talented bench for their next goal.
Giancarlo Triulzi has been in great form and a trusted piece off the bench and he scored his third goal of the season in the 44th minute as he got behind the Eckerd defense and dribbled by the Tritons goalie and all he had left to do was put the ball in an empty net.
The Sailfish were in total command of the match leading 4-0 at the half after PBA outshot Eckerd 13-1 in the first half. Ferreira has scored eight goals on the season which leads the team and now also leads in points with 18.
With a firm grasp on the contest, the Sailfish went deep into the bench in the second half and brought on 12 different players who saw action. The Tritons hit back in the 62nd minute, beating Sailfish goalie
Albert Escuin. Escuin was called upon to make three saves in the match on five Tritons shots. PBA scored the final goal of the game when Zivanovic got a goal of his own after playmaking earlier in the match.
Luis Quintero headed a ball in behind the defensive line and the Sailfish forward ran onto the ball and his left-footed effort beat the Eckerd keeper. The goal was Zivanovic's first of the season and captured the 5-1 scoreline for PBA.
The Sailfish are in the middle of an impressive run of form as they scored a season-high five goals tonight. The Sailfish have won seven straight games including three over ranked opponents, having outscored the seven opponents 23-4. The 'Fish have climbed up to No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll and sit atop the SSC standings with Tampa with 21 points.
The Sailfish have two games remaining in their regular season. Up next, the Sailfish will host Florida Tech on Oct. 27 for PBA's senior night. The Panthers are 5-5-1 on the season.
