WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse picked up their second-straight victory on Monday night, defeating UVA-Wise in overtime 16-15 with a goal from Kiki Cinotti to end it.
A turnover by UVA-Wise deep in their own end set up the game-winner for PBA as the 'Fish improved to 4-3 on the season. Anna Laskaris deflected a pass and it was quickly scooped up by Nicole Townsend who found Cinotti in front of the net to beat the goalie and give PBA the victory.
The Sailfish fell behind big early before battling back. The Cavaliers (2-4) started things off well, scoring five of the game's first six goals. A three-goal run by three freshman – Riley Latshaw, Kelly Lyons and Jillian Kolakowski – put PBA within one at 5-4 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half.
UVA-Wise responded with two more goals before PBA answered back to close the half with three goals to tie the game at 7-7.
The Cavaliers went up by three, 13-10, with 9:19 to play in the second half before PBA answered with a four-goal run to take a 14-13 lead with 2:32 to play. Four different players scored in that run by the 'Fish as PBA finished the night with eight goal scorers.
UVA-Wise answered 41 seconds later to tie the game at 14-14 before Grace Bartlinski put PBA ahead by one with her third of the night with just 1:38 remaining. The Cavaliers again tied the game, this time with 1:06 left, forcing overtime.
In the extra session, UVA-Wise gained the first possession but Abigal Nehring came away with a clutch ninth save to give the ball to the home team. After a timeout, the 'Fish had several chances before finally forcing the turnover that led to the game-winner.
The 'Fish were led by Cinotti and Laskaris who both scored four times in the game. Cinotti added a team-best three assists to finish the game with seven points. Laskaris also led the team with three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Chelsea Smith added six draw controls for PBA while Jillian Kolakowski was credited with two caused turnovers.
In addition to the three multi-goal scorers , PBA saw goals from Kolakowski, Latshaw, Lyons, Lindsey Heffler and Townsend.
