WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse overcame an early deficit to defeat Mars Hill 16-13 on Saturday evening at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
The Sailfish (3-3) surrendered the first two goals to the Lions (4-3) before scoring three straight to take their first lead off two goals and an assist from Kiki Cinotti. The teams traded back-to-back goals until the Lions built a 6-5 lead late in the first half. PBA closed the half on a 4-1 run to lead 9-7 at the break.
The 'Fish blitzed Mars Hill to start the second half as Nicole Townsend, Kate LeBlanc and Taylor Gutmann scored three a goal each to give PBA a 12-7 lead. After the Lions scored three goals of their own the 'Fish pushed it back out to a five-goal advantage as Chelsea Smith scored twice within 90 seconds with Anna Laskaris adding her fourth of the night in-between Smith's goals.
Nine players scored a goal for PBA on the night with five tallying a multi-goal effort. Laskaris led the way with her four with Cinotti, Kate LeBlanc, Grace Bartlinski and Smith adding two each. Cinotti added six assists to finish with a game-high eight points. Townsend added a goal and an assist with Riley Latshaw, Kelly Lyons and Gutmann also scoring.
Laskaris also led the team with four caused turnovers, four draw controls and four ground balls. Lauren Kolakowski also secured four draw controls as the teams each secured 16. Lyons joined Laskaris with four ground balls as PBA collected 25 on the night. Abigal Nehring made seven saves in goal for PBA.
PBA will be back in action on Monday at 7 p.m. as they host UVA-Wise at the RAC.
