WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic tennis team returned to the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center to face No. 21 Wayne State (4-1) on Friday.
The Sailfish pulled off the upset against the Warriors, winning the match 5-2. PBA (4-4) earned the doubles point to gain an early edge in the contest.
Shelby Groeneveld and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard got the 6-3 win at No. 1 singles followed by another 6-3 win at the No. 3 position by
Anabelle Robichaud and
Elvira Edstrom.
Quinty Janssen and
Yuliia Russu nearly made it a clean set at No. 2 doubles, but they lost their match, 7-6 (5).
Groeneveld had a strong performance at No. 1 singles, defeating regionally-ranked Laura Cazacu, 6-3, 6-2.
Verena Weindl followed by picking up the win at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Edstrom clinched the match for PBA by defeating Sabrina Laynes, 6-2, 6-2. PBA dropped matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, but Keijzerwaard got the 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position to make it 5-2, PBA.
The Sailfish are back at it again tomorrow in Lake Nona, Fla. against Southern New Hampshire. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
