LAKE NONA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team faced a tough test in the form of No. 8 Hawaii Pacific.
The Sailfish struggled against the Sharks who beat up on PBA (3-4), 4-0. It started in doubles play when HPU's Jayme Waites and Elodie Busson defeated
Elvira Edstrom and
Verena Weindl, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. At the No. 2 spot,
Yuliia Russu and
Quinty Janssen lost to Nicole Ballach and Sarah Ikioka, 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for HPU (8-3).
The Shark's dominance continued into singles play. Busson defeated
Shelby Groeneveld, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 singles to make it 2-0 HPU. Janssen came up short against Ikioka at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Lastly, Edstrom fell to Ballach, 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the match for HPU.
PBA will get Thursday off before playing against Wayne State on Friday. The match at the Mitch Gornto tennis center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
