Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team was on the road today facing off against the Shorter Hawks in Georgia. The Sailfish came into the game with a 1-1 record and jumped all over the Hawks from the opening whistle and came away with a 19-7 victory.
The 'Fish jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game behind goals from
Nick Whelan and
Henry Sloyan. The Sailfish outshot the Hawks 15-3 in the opening period and led 5-0.Â
PBA's offense stayed firing as they scored quarter as they fired 18 shots on the Hawks net beating goalie Richard Ticer for five more goals. The Sailfish won 11-of-14 faceoffs in the first half which allowed them to retain possession and keep the pressure off their defense. PBA goalie
Lee Rowden was only forced to make three saves in the first half on five shots on goal. The Sailfish took the commanding lead into the halftime locker room leading 10-2.Â
The Sailfish came out in the second half and continued to dictate the play against the Hawks, outscoring them 9-5 in the final two quarters. The star of the game offensively for the 'Fish was freshman
Henry Sloyan who scored a game-high six goals. In addition to his goals, he dished out one assist and picked up four ground balls.
Austin Evans recorded five points, three goals and two assists, while
Alex Bellem added three goals as well.Â
PBA was up 19-4 before Shorter closed out the final three minutes by scoring three goals. The Sailfish did a good job defensively keeping goalie
Lee Rowden clean, as he faced just 19 shots and made eight saves.
Alex Aken led the Sailfish picking up five ground balls while the Sailfish were a perfect 42-of-42 on clears. PBA dominated the faceoff circle while
Noah McKoeun won 12-of-14 faceoffs and
Corbin Schneider won 8-of-14.Â
