Sailfish Split Doubleheader Against Tritons

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic baseball split the doubleheader against Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon. The Sailfish (6-7) had 29 hits on the day winning the first game 10-1 before the Tritons (6-8) were able to win the series with a 8-6 victory over the Sailfish in game two.

Game 1: Palm Beach Atlantic 10, Eckerd College 1

Troy Klemm (2-1) had a quality performance on the hill going six innings for the 'Fish only allowing four hits and not surrendering a run. Christian Horner came in relief for the final three innings giving up only four hits and no earned runs which gave him his first save of his PBA career.

PBA scored the first runs of the game in the third when Carlos Lara drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Andreas Papageorge. Ramon Machado followed that up with a sacrifice bunt to bring another run home. Derek Schwimer capped of the scoring for the inning on a single to first base putting the Sailfish up 3-0.

The Sailfish added a run in the fourth thanks to a Lara single to left field once again brining home Papageorge. In the fifth inning Brandon Seltzer hit one of his two triples on the day allowing Sean Houck to score. The Sailfish would add one more run in the seventh, courtesy of a Triton error.

Palm Beach Atlantic added some insurance runs in the ninth, putting up a four spot to push the score to 10-0. The scoring started when Papageorge singled with bases loaded to bring home two runs which were his second and third RBIs of the game. Brandon Smith followed that up with a double to score Robert Fabelo from second and Papageroge from first.

The Sailfish collected 15 hits hits in the game and saw five different players with a multiple hit game. Houck had a trio of hits in the contest while Schwimer, Seltzer, Papageorge, and Smith all had two hits. Louis Zayas notched his first hit collegiate hit in the game as well.

Game 2: Eckerd College 8, Palm Beach Atlantic 6

It was the Tritons who struck first in game two scoring in the opening inning. The Sailfish would not stay down for long as they evened things up in the top of the second. Zayas doubled to right center to get things going before Dylan Tosto drove him in on a single to right field tying the game at 1-1.

In the third, Seltzer took an inside pitch deep to left for a two-run homer putting the Sailfish up 3-1. The homer was Seltzer's third of the year.

The Tritons regained the lead thanks to a five-run fourth inning rally. The rally put them up 7-3 going into the fifth.

Palm Beach Atlantic put up two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to cut the lead to one. But the Tritons would get an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh which would be more than they needed as they shut down the Sailfish offense and hung on for a 8-6 victory.

The Sailfish bullpen accounted for 4.1 innings giving up only one run and striking out three.

PBA accounted for 14 hits in the game with Papageorge collecting three hits giving him five hits on the day. Zayas had his first multiple-hit game in a Sailfish uniform with two hits in the game. Houck, Seltzer, and Tosto each finished with two hits in the game as well.
