Men's Basketball Shocks Tars for 20th win of the Season

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After his late-game heroics led to the upset over No. 10 Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, De'Ondre Jackson did it again on Saturday with another game-winning 3-pointer at Rollins (13-13, 7-11 SSC) for the Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team.

With the game tied at 86 with 30 seconds left in overtime, it seemed as if we were headed for a second overtime. The Sailfish had other plans as Darhius Nunn kicked it out to Jackson who knocked down the game-winning shot from the wing opposite his dagger from Wednesday's game. The shot sealed the 89-86 win for PBA (20-6, 13-5 Sunshine State Conference) and notched the first 20-win season of the DII-era for the 'Fish and their ninth win in a row. Nunn's assist on the play was his 13th of the game which is a DII-era single game record for PBA.

Jules Jasmin led PBA in scoring with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Dan Largey scored 17 points with five 3-pointers and three rebounds. Jackson totaled 15 points while Malek Barber had 15 points of his own with five rebounds and three assists. Nunn had 14 points and six rebounds to go with his 13 assists. Justin Nichelson added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench for the 'Fish.

PBA finished the game shooting 45-percent from the field including a 39-percent performance from beyond the 3-point line. The 'Fish went 12-for-15 from the charity stripe in the game. Both teams were neck and neck statistically. Both teams scored 11 points off turnovers and 34 points in the paint. The battle of the boards was nearly even as Rollins finished with a 38-36 advantage on the glass.

The hosts were trailing 69-57 with seven minutes left before a 10-0 run got the Tars back into the game. The Tars took the lead with two minutes left, but the 'Fish did not allow the lead to slip too far out of reach.

It was miraculous that the 'Fish were able to send the game to overtime in the first place. Rollins led 77-74 with 29 seconds left. After a missed 3-pointer, Nunn chased down the offensive rebound and hit a game-tying three with six seconds left to keep PBA alive.

The Sailfish shot the ball well in the first half as PBA quickly gained a 12-2 lead to start the game thanks to 3-pointers from Jackson and Barber. The 'Fish attempted to keep their distance, but Rollins continued to remain with striking distance. With seven minutes to go in the half, the Tars 11-2 run, with most of the points coming from the free throw line.

The hosts tied the game at 41 near the end of the period, but a 3-pointer from Barber beat the buzzer and gave the Sailfish a 44-41 lead at halftime. PBA shot 50 percent from deep in the half and 54 percent from the field. The discrepancy in the first half came at the free throw line where the Tars had 16 attempts while the 'Fish had three. PBA was called for 12 fouls in the period compared to four fouls for Rollins.

PBA plays its last road game of the regular season at Lynn on Wednesday. The game at Boca Raton, Fla. starts at 7:30 p.m.
