FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team played its first conference match of the year at Nova Southeastern on Wednesday.
The Sailfish fought hard, but lost to the Sharks, 7-0. NSU (5-0, 2-0 SSC) clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Elvira Edstrom and Verena Weidl were swept at the No. 2 spot, 6-0. Annabelle Robichaud and Estafani Fernandez were also swept at No. 3 doubles 6-0. The duo of
Shelby Groeneveld and
Yuliia Russu earned the win at the No. 1 spot for the Sailfish, 6-4.
The Sharks kept their momentum going into singles play. Edstrom was swept at No. 3 singles as NSU took a 2-0 lead. Weind was defeated at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1 followed by a loss at the No. 5 spot by Robichaud, 6-0, 6-1 which clinched the match for the Sharks. PBA (2-2, 0-1 SSC) did not win a singles match.
PBA continues its Sunshine State Conference schedule on Sunday against Embry-Riddle. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center starts at 1 p.m.
