'Fish Flounder at Home Against Sharks

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team fell at home tonight 76-62 against Nova Southeastern. The 'Fish were unable to gain the series split against the Sharks after dropping the previous game of the series 76-55 earlier this year. The Sailfish fall to 3-21 with the defeat and the Sharks improve to 12-12 on the season.

PBA started the game on a high note and led for 23 seconds of game action when Avree Carpenter opened up the game with a three-pointer. Unfortunately, the lead was short-lived as the Sharks answered with an 11-0 run. The 'Fish were only able to hit at a 22 percent rate from the floor in the first quarter and trailed 18-9 after the first ten minutes. Claire Bady was PBA's leading scorer with four points in the quarter while NSU was 9-of-19 from the field and had seven different players make a basket.

The Sailfish offense came to life by scoring 18 points in the second after the slow scoring first quarter but they were unable to keep the Sharks below 20 of their own. The Sharks were 4-of-6 from behind the arc and shot 47 percent from the floor in the quarter. Sia Williams and Victoria Self each scored seven in the second, sparking the Sailfish attack, but only one other PBA player recorded any points in the quarter. The two teams went into the half with the Sharks leading 39-25.

After the brief Sailfish lead early, the Sharks led by double digits throughout. Sia Williams did her best to cut the deficit finishing with a team-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Avree Carpenter and Victoria Self were each able to crack double figures as well with 14 and 11 points respectively but the 'Fish couldn't limit the Sharks offense as they shot 45 percent from the floor for the game. The Sharks had four players score in double figures, led by Hailey Conley's game-high 21 points.

The Sailfish were able to shoot just 37 percent from the floor, 23-of-62 , and 5-of-14 from three for the game. Aniyah Ross controlled the action in the paint as she pulled down 13 rebounds to go with her seven points.

The Sailfish will look to get back on track when they travel to play Rollins this Saturday. The Tars won a tight one 60-56 in the matchup earlier this season at Rubin Arena.
