Sailfish Make it Rain Against Tars

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team looked to get back into the win column when it faced Rollins at home Saturday evening.

The history book was rewritten for PBA basketball as the Sailfish tied a team record with 17 3-pointers and broke the program record for 3-point percentage in a game shooting a sweltering 65 percent from beyond the arc on their way to a 92-80 win over the Tars. Ball movement was key for the 'Fish who's 25 assists set a new season-high. De'Ondre Jackson led the barrage of threes for the 'Fish hitting eight triples which is one short of tying a PBA (11-4, 4-3 Sunshine State Conference) single-game record.

Jackson tied with Darhius Nunn for a team-high 24 points. Jackson added nine rebounds to his scoring while Nunn finished with six assists, five rebounds, four 3-pointers and two steals. Jules Jasmin totaled 21 points including a layup in the second half that eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark for the junior. Dan Largey tallied 16 points with three 3-pointers and five rebounds.

PBA got the job done on the defensive end as well. The 'Fish held Rollins (8-7, 2-5 SSC) to shooting 36 percent from the field and forced six of the Tars' seven turnovers in the second half. The Sailfish also had their way on the boards, outrebounding the Tars 41-25 and outscoring Rollins in the paint 24-22.

Much like their last contest, the 'Fish came out of the gates red hot from beyond the arc. PBA found the openings in the Tars' zone defense resulting in 10 made threes in the first half. The 'Fish got out to a 13-4 lead through the first five minutes of action. PBA continued to build its lead throughout the first half as back-to-back trays from Largey and Justin Nichelson gave the 'Fish a 35-21 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first period.

Rollins refused to go away easily as the Tars ended the half on a strong note. With just over two minutes remaining in the period, a 3-pointer from Rollins sparked a 10-3 run to end the half. The Tars cut the deficit to eight as PBA went into the half leading 50-42.

The Sailfish stayed hot in the second half. A handful of 3-pointers from Jackson, a layup from Nunn and a dunk from Jasmin gave PBA a 65-50 lead with 11 minutes remaining. The Tars continued to hang around striking distance, but they were unable to find that run to get back into the game.

Rollins resorted to fouling early and PBA made them pay by knocking down its free throws and extending the lead. The Sailfish sealed the game by sinking 14 of their last 15 free throws in the final two minutes to cruise to a 92-80 victory.

PBA faces a big road test in its next matchup on Wednesday in the form of No. 4 Nova Southeastern. The game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. takes place at 7:30 p.m.
