WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team continued the perfect start to its season winning a dramatic overtime game against Spring Hill College Friday night. The 2-1 victory over the No. 18 ranked Badgers moves the No. 9 ranked Sailfish to 3-0 on the season.
PBA's home opener of the 2019 season looked to be a challenging test early in the season facing a ranked south region foe in Spring Hill, and the Badgers came out strong in the opening fifteen minute of the game. They created multiple chances early before in the 10th minute Spring Hill's Alexander Lipinski scored on a rebound after a save from PBA keeper
Elliott Barker; however, this was the last time Barker would be beaten on the night. The senior captain came up with four saves to keep the first half Badger pressure at bay.Â
The Sailfish had chances in the first half but couldn't capitalize and went into halftime trailing for the first time this season. In the second half, PBA showed they were the better side dominating possession and forcing Spring Hill to sit back and absorb pressure. In the 52nd minute the pressure paid off when the ball fell to
Cadu Cusatis on the edge of the box and he was able to set up
Claudio Rivadeneira in the left side of the box. From there the senior's shot found the bottom right-hand corner of the goal to equalize at 1-1.
The Badgers where able to hold off the pressure through regulation and the game headed to golden goal overtime. Five minutes into the first overtime period, Rivadeneira gathered the ball outside the left side of the box. He cut onto his right foot and his curling effort beat the Spring Hill goalie Alessandro Erdelyi to give the 'Fish the 2-1 victory.Â
PBA out shot the Badgers 18-8 overall in the game and controlled 58 percent of the possession in the game. The Sailfish are back in action at home on Sept. 16 as they host Florida Memorial University. PBA will look to improve on their 3-0 start to the season and No. 9 national ranking.Â
