PBA Drops Opener to Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball dropped the opening game of the three-game weekend series with Embry-Riddle, as the Eagles walked off in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener 3-2. PBA drops to 22-18 and 10-9 in SSC play with the loss while ERAU improves to 17-16 overall and 9-10 in league play.

The Sailfish scored first on the night, as Maddie Biggs lined a single to left field that plated Magnolia West who led off the game with a single.  The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.  Embry-Riddle took a 2-1 lead in the second inning.

The 'Fish tied the game up in the fourth inning as Taylor Pennica lined a ball to deep center that cleared the fence for Pennica's second homer of the season.

Pennica had her best appearance in the circle for the 'Fish, as she pitched four innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one hit and no runs.

The 'Fish were unable to plate a run to take a late lead and the Eagles scored a run with two outs in the seventh to pick up the win.

PBA out-hit ERAU 5-4 on the night as West led the way with two hits on the night.

The Sailfish and Eagles will be back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
