Sailfish Drop Midweek Contest with NSU 12-8

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball fell to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday by a final score of 12-8.  The Sailfish fall to .500 as they now sit 21-21 while NSU improves to 29-15 with the win.

NSU got off to a good start in the midweek game, as they plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning off Sailfish starter Matt Leslie. The Sharks added an unearned run in the second as Brandon Chinea bunted for a single and Sean Houck overthrew the ball down the first base line.  The ball appeared to be lodged in the field tarp but the umpires ruled that the ball was still in play as Chinea rounded the bases and scored.

The 'Fish loaded the bases with one out in the third inning but NSU was able to turn a 6-4-3 double play to escape the jam.

NSU opened up the lead in the third inning, as they scored five runs including two unearned runs to open up an 8-0 lead.

PBA loaded the bases with three consecutive hits in the fourth inning, and Andreas Papageorge who was making his first start since March 8, launched a no-doubt grand slam to cap an 11-pitch at-bat which to cut the NSU lead in half. A Marcos Perez double and a Ramon Machado RBI single added a run in the fourth to make the score 8-5 and a two-out RBI single by Houck finished off a six-run inning for the 'Fish.

The Sharks answered back in a hurry, as they scored four runs in the bottom half to take a 12-6 lead.

The score remained 12-6 until the top of the ninth, where the Sailfish scored two runs and loaded the bases with nobody out.  The 'Fish went down in order after that however and fell 12-8.

Brandon Seltzer, Brandon Smith, and Perez finished with two hits each in the game, while Derek Schwimer reached three times via walk and scored two runs.

PBA will return to play on Thursday, April 25 as they will host SSC foe Florida Tech for the first of three games at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
