HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis defeated Mercyhurst on Friday, 7-0 to finish their stay in Hilton Head a perfect 5-0.
The Sailfish swept the doubles matches as the top duo of Vanessa Buchbinder and Yuliia Russu improved to 6-2 on the season. They won their match 6-4 while the 'Fish had little trouble with the other two doubles matches, winning 6-2 and 6-1.
Five of the six singles matches went only two sets with Bella Mermersky coming away victorious at the top spot in three sets. Mermersky cruised in the opening set against Kayla Frost, winning 6-1 before dropping the second 7-6 (5). In the third, Mermersky pulled out a 10-7 decision to help the 'Fish to their third shutout win of the week.
PBA returns to action on Monday to open a seven-match home stand against Division I Colgate University at 4 p.m.
