MELBOURNE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball dropped a 2-1 game to No. 10 Florida Tech on Friday, as three Sailfish errors led to two unearned runs for the Panthers. PBA drops their second Sunshine State Conference game in a row and is now 9-7 in league play while Florida Tech pulls to within a game of the SSC lead with an 11-5 SSC record.
Florida Tech scored runs in the bottom of the first and the third as the Sailfish infield was unable to come up with ground balls cleanly with two outs. PBA scored their only run of the game in the top of the second as Janie McCloskey clubbed her fourth homer of the season over the left-field fence.
Kaylee Winn led off the fifth inning with a bunt single and Taylor Pennica singled with two outs in the seventh inning but he 'Fish were unable to come up with two-out RBI hits and fell by the 2-1 final.
Maddie Biggs added the fourth Sailfish hit on the day as both teams finished with four hits.
Abbey Busby took the loss in the game despite five innings and no earned runs on the afternoon. Busby falls to 16-8 with the loss while FIT pitcher Melanie Murphy improves to 14-5 with the win.
PBA and Florida Tech will return to play tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
